Kelly’s Revenge Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

Kelly's Revenge Cabernet SauvignonPrice: $6
Maker: Thomas Hardy & Sons, Reynella, S.A.
Variety: Cabernet Sauvingon
Packaging: 750 ml bottle, artificial cork
Our Rating: 8.5 out of 10

Kelly's Revenge Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 looks like a fun wine, with a near stick-figure on its label and its somewhat unorthodox name. In fact, this cab IS a fun wine. Its aroma is cherry and raspberry, and the flavor is a jammy mix of red fruit. Don't expect a lot of complexity here - think fruit, and more fruit. Despite its simplicity, for a six buck investment, Kelly's Revenge provides plenty of flavor.

The San Francisco Chronicle called this cab a "best deal".

If you think this wine is a steal, you might be on the right track. According to the maker, "“The Kelly’s Revenge name evokes Australia’s notorious 19 th-century outlaw Ned Kelly, who was legendary in his day... After a hard day’s work, a glass of Kelly’s Revenge helps consumers regain their sense of independence and perspective and remember that living well is the best revenge.”

  2. how/where do i order kelly’s revenge wine? do you also carry a white wine by kelly’s revenge? thanks for the help. jk

    • Judy, I went to the Hardy’s website, http://www.hardys.com.au/, and I didn’t see the wine listed there. They may have discontinued the label. I suggest checking with a big wine distributor in your area, or even contacting the winemaker via their site. There are any number of Australian Cabs as good as this one, but I suspect it’s the name you are after. Good luck!
