The non-varietal name of Wild Bunch California Red Wine 2003 and its screw cap may be slightly off-putting, but what comes out of the bottle will put your fears to rest. This blend favors the fruitiness of its Zinfandel component, with a nod to the spice one expects from Syrah. The aroma has berry and mixed spice notes. The flavor is rich and fruity with raspberries predominating. The finish has pepper and some acidity, adding a bit of sophistication to this fun blend.
According to the Wild Bunch website, their California Red Wine is 69% Zinfandel, 25% Syrah, and 6% Barbera. The wine folks at the San Francisco Chronicle called it a "winning pick", noting
To capture the rowdy spirit of football season, try unscrewing a bottle of new wine called -- appropriately -- Wild Bunch. Launched by Amador's Montevina winery, which is known for Zinfandel, the 2003 Wild Bunch California Red Wine ($10) is a perfect pick for tailgate parties. This juicy, medium-bodied blend of Zinfandel, Syrah and Barbera scores high in fun.
Now this brand is part of the Trinchero family.
