Golden Gate Chardonnay

Maker: Golden State Vineyards, American Canyon, Napa County, California
Varietal: Chardonnay
Packaging: 750 ml bottle, artificial cork
Alcohol: 13.5%
Our Rating: 7.5 out of 10

Golden Gate Chardonnay (non-vintage) is an innoffensive little wine that will gain a bit of flavor once the chill is off the bottle. Chilled, we found little aroma and thin flavor. We let the bottle warm a bit, though, and the wine aroma resolved into pear, melon, and oak. The flavor wasn’t quite as lacking, with spicy oak notes a bit stronger than the fruit. This isn’t an awful wine… it might actually be refreshing if gulped with a fruit-heavy brunch on a warm patio. Overall, though, it’s unlikely to make many “big chards” lists.

  1. This is the only wine I have ever had that I could NOT drink—and I do not drink expensive wines, obviously !!!

  2. I enjoy many California and Australian wines, and virtually all of the ones I purchase are $ 25 or less.

This Chardonnay (Golden Gate) is an excellent value, and is as good as or better than many of those in the $5 – $15 range. I regularly find it on sale for only 2.99 (and an extra 10% off for 6 bottles or more at Albertsons). It is much better than the other discount Chards and is one of my favorites. Try it and enjoy!

    1. Yeah, it is a good wine and a good price…especially if Albertsons could keep it stocked!!! I just wish you could buy it somewhere besides Albertsons! Went to 3 Albertsons this week and was only able to get what they had….6 🙁

  3. My family can get this for $1.99 a bottle on sale at Albertsons. Perfect wine for a picnic with lost of friends
