We had a chance to try Papio Merlot 2003 at a catered event, and took a few notes while we could. The tiny plastic cup we were served in was hardly conducive to capturing delicate notes in the wine’s nose, unfortunately. We found the flavor to be smooth and plummy, with some chocolate mixed with the fruit. The tannins were very soft, and the finish was mild with just a bit of spice.
If you are looking for a smooth and inoffensive wine, this Merlot from Papio might work. Overall, we found it a bit bland and lacking in personality. The Papio website describes this Merlot in more glowing terms. See what you think.
